Department of Nursing

Introduction
The Department of Nursing and Midwifery was established in 1968, and the Department was renamed as Department of Nursing in 1991.
The teaching philosophy of the Department of Nursing is to educate our students in order to become warm and caring persons. Students also learn how to respect others and to be responsible for their own lives and careers. Thus, students can become the nurses with adequate nursing knowledge and clinical skills upon completion of the program. Students can be independent, decisive, and creative as well upon completion of the program.

Educational Objectives and Curricula

• To teach students building up the professional nursing knowledge and skills.
• To teach students establishing the ability for life-long learning.
• To teach students building up cooperation relationships with other medical teams.
• Applying administrative knowledge and leadership skills to expand nursing careers.
• The Department of Nursing has provided the following programs: including the 2-year bachelor program, the 4-year bachelor program, and the 5-year diploma program.
• The curriculum includes: literacy class, basic medical and nursing professional courses (such as Medical/Surgical, Obstetrical, Pediatric, Community health and Mental Health, etc.). The program places great emphases on the entire process of care and clinical practice experiences.

Faculties
There are Three professors, 18 associate professors, 10 assistant professors, 16 lecturers, 40clinical teachers, and 3 teaching assistants in the Department of Nursing.

The Future Trends and Development (Vision and Mission)
•Establishing a campus-based community health service network, to provide health services to the near-by community.
•Extending international academic exchanges, including nursing education and research, to facilitate the faculty members and students with more global perspectives in the nursing profession.
•Establishing the nursing graduate programs.

Equipments and Facilities
•Lab Demonstration Rooms: Fundamental Nursing, Physical Examination & Assessment, Medical-Surgical Nursing, and Obstetric & Pediatric Nursing
•Nursing Labs: Fundamental Nursing, Physical Examination & Assessment, Medical-Surgical Nursing, and Obstetric & Pediatric Nursing.
•Simulation Labs: Intensive care unit, Labor delivery recovery room, and Multiple function simulation lab.
•General Labs: Computer Labs, Anatomy and Physiology Labs, Chemistry Labs, Biology Labs, Audio-visual Facilities and Language Centers.

Course Description
  Seventy-two, 128 and 220 credit points are required for two year bachelor program, four-year bachelor program and five-year diploma program respectively.
  These credit points are allocated based on the curriculum design and to help students to achieve the educational objectives of the Department.
